Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between smoking desire and burnout with some sociodemographic variables. Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Smoking Desire Inventory (QSU) and a sociodemographic form was uploaded to Google Forms and applied to participants via social media applications such as Whatsapp, Gmail etc. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out by using SPSS 27 software. Analysis of the relationships between the scales was carried out with Pearson Correlation analysis, which reveals both the direction and magnitude of these relationships. While Multiple Linear Regression was used for predictive analysis, Independent Groups t-test and ANOVA were used to examine the change in the mean scores of the scales according to demographic factors. Total number of participants included in this study was 612, 43.5% were women (n = 266) and 56.5% were men (n = 346). The majority of the participants were adults in the 18-25 age group (45%), single (60%) and university graduates (59%). According to the results, there was a significant relationship between emotional exhaustion and smoking desire in women. It was also observed that the burnout total and sub-dimension scores were high in participants in the 18-25 age group, single people and those who have no children. There was a significant relationship between working under stressful conditions, having poor communication skills and low income level, working in the private sector and working for 1-5 years and burnout level. Both the level of burnout and the smoking desire were found to be high in participants who started smoking before the age of 18 and who had positive attitudes towards smoking in coping with stress and socializing. Finally, it was observed that there was a statistically significant positive relationship between the total and sub-dimensions of burnout and the smoking desire.
