Contributions of dams in Siirt province to provincial economy

This study was carried out on dams, which is one of the alternative economic development tools within the scope of the provincial economy. It is one of the most discussed issues in recent years with its effects on nature and economy. The main purpose of this research is to answer the question "Have the dams built or being built in Siirt contributed to the economy of Siirt?" is to answer the question. In this regard, there are many studies on dams built in different provinces in our country. However, in the sources examined in Turkey, no study could be found on the contribution of the dams in Siirt province to the provincial economy by taking the opinions of individuals living in Siirt province. For this purpose, it is thought that an important deficiency in the literature in Turkey will be eliminated. In the study, it was also examined whether the opinions about the dam changed according to personality traits. The fieldwork of the research was carried out on individuals living in Siirt province and its districts. As a result of the research, it is seen that the expected economic benefit from the dams is not obtained due to the decrease in agricultural activities, deterioration of transportation facilities, and the disappearance of picnic areas.
