An investigation of high school students in Siirt (Kurtalan) participating and nonparticipating sports on aggression levels

Aggression has become a subject of choice for researchers for many years. It has been proven by scientific research that the level of aggression will be affected by more than one factor. The aim of this study; investigate the aggression levels of male students who do sports in Kurtalan district of Siirt according to different variables. Material and Method: The sample of the study consisted of 150 male high school students (N = 75) and non-qualified (n = 75) who were trained in Kurtalan district of Siirt. The data collection tools of the study were the Buss-Perry Aggression Scale (BPSÖ) conducted by Demirtaş Madran (2012) and the Personal Information Form which was prepared by the researchers to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants. The data were obtained by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and the data were distributed normally. Independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA test were used for data analysis. Results: The analysis result; no significant difference was found between the scores obtained from the responses of the participants to the aggression scale and sub-dimensions and age, family structure, income status, which high school, family attitudes, maternal living status, father living status, smoking, alcohol use variables (p>0,05). While there was a significant difference in all sub-dimensions in sports situations, there was a significant difference in physical aggression sub-dimension, anger sub-dimension, and aggression general scale scores according to sport types and duration of sports (p <0,05). Conclusion: When the results obtained are evaluated, it can be considered that high school students' sporting status has a significant effect on their aggression levels. , Key Words: Siirt kurtalan, Psycohology, Aggression, Sport, High School
