The role of Siirt University in regional development

In the world along with the transition to the information economy with its effects; companies, regions and countries that produce information and use that information effectively in the production process are in an advantageous position in the development process. Because of this fact, universities that produce and disseminate information become the most important actors of regional development Siirt University is one of the newly established and dynamic universities. In this study, Siirt Universities role in regional development has been examined based on information-based and economic-based sources. For this aim, 2 different group questionnaire were distributed to Siirt province tradesman and students studying at Siirt University. Two different type of Surveys were created; one for 1325 Siirt University students, one for 675 Siirt tradesman and answer are recorded using face-to-face interviews. Siirt University students are asked for what they spend in the city they live in and about their opinions about Siirt University, and Siirt province tradesmen are asked for how they perceive the university and their view of the province economy. Collected survey data is analyzed and for Siirt University, which is still in the process of organization, various suggestions are suggested.
