Abstract (EN)

535 eyes of 270 diabetic patients who applied our clinic were retrospectively examined in order to determine risk factors which were effective in patients with diabetes mellitus during development of macular edema. While 221 eyes of 111 patients that were with macular edema were defined as research group, 314 eyes of 159 patients that were not with macular edema were taken as control group.535 eyes of 270 diabetic patients who applied our clinic were retrospectively examined in order to determine risk factors which were effective in patients with diabetes mellitus during development of macular edema. While 221 eyes of 111 patients that were with macular edema were defined as research group, 314 eyes of 159 patients that were not with macular edema were taken as control group. While the factors which had statistically meaningful impacts during the development of macular edema were found as duration of diabetes, Bun, glucose and age in analysis of logistic regression (p<0,05); the impacts of factors such as sex, existence of HT, urea, keratin, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, TG, Hgb, MCV, MCH, MPV, HbA1c, PT-INR, phase of DR and visual acuity were statistically found meaningless (p>0,05).When the factors were examined independently from each other, it was seen that sex, existence of HT, urea, ceratine, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, TG, Hgb, MCV, MCH, MPV, Hba1C, PT-INR and existence of non-proliferative retinopathy did not statistically have any meaningful effect on development of macular edema (p>0,05), while it was seen that the development of macular edema was statistically more on meaningful level in the case of facts that were with ground proliferative diabetic retinopathy and had long diabetes duration, age-more than 60, low visual acuity high BUN, fasting blood glucose level (p<0,05).Consequently, the duration of diabetes, BUN, urea, age, visual acuity and the existence of proliferative diabetic retinopathy were found as meaningful risk factors during the development of macular edema. In majority of facts that are with macular edema due to ground diabetic retinopathy, it should be kept in mind during the routine eye examination of diabetic patients that there can be macular edema in the facts whose diabetes is newly diagnosed or even in the facts with ground diabetic retinopathy.
