Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to find a solution to the decreased participation, lack of motivation and lower academic achievement in Math lessons among the students in the classroom due to rising temperatures in the spring. An action research model was preferred in the study in order to increase students' motivation and effective and permanent learning by using differentiated learning activities. In the study, an action plan developed according to the differentiated learning activities in outdoor learning among fourth-grade students in Math classes based on the subject of "Length Measurement" and "Environmental Measurement". The study group consisted of 37 students (15 girls and 22 boys) in two classes in a private primary school in the second term of the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to collect quantitative data, Math Motivation Scale developed by Aktan and Tezci (2013), an achievement test developed by the researcher were used. Furthermore, semi-structured interviews and student diaries were used for qualitative data. The action plan designed in accordance with the differentiated learning activities in outdoor learning was implemented for seven weeks. Data obtained from mathematics motivation scale and mathematics achievement test were analyzed by t test for dependent groups. The qualitative data obtained from semi-structured interviews and reflective diaries kept by the students during the study were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. According to the findings, it may be said that the action plan for "Length and Environmental Measurement" topics of fourth grade Math class includes differentiated learning activities in outdoor learning has made a statistically significant contribution on students' motivation towards mathematics and mathematics achievement. According to the interviews, it was seen that the students' thoughts about the class have changed positively and the students started to like Math classes more. Moreover, it can also be said that the students are highly motivated and the students' anxiety levels are reduced. It can be considered that working with different guidelines contribute students in several fields (problem solving and cooperative working skills) in a positive way. Time constraints and problems caused by natural environments emerge as both advantages and disadvantages of outdoor learning activities.
