The sufficiency of classroom teacher education program in training teacher

VI ABSTRACT Masters Thesis The Sufficiency of Classroom Teacher Education Program in Training Teacher Yasin Erbey Fırat University Institute of Social Sciences Department of Educational Sciences June 2005, Page 130 The subject of training teacher, forming a very important chain of our educational system, is today face to face very important problems. One of these is about teacher training curriculum. The aim of this investigation is to determine opinions of classroom teachers and elementary school principals about the sufficiency of classroom teacher education curricula in training teacher. The investigation presents a descriptive quality. The research population includes by classroom teachers and school managers, working in elementary schools consists of The Ministry of Education in the cities Elazığ, Malatya and Diyarbakır. But the sample is formed by 300 classroom teachers and 27 elementary school manager who were selected randomly in this population. The data, which are obtained from a questionnaire developed by an investigator, are analysed in SPSS program. The findings, obtained from the analysis of datums, can be summarized like as follows: 1. The Findings About The Historical Development of Classroom Teacher Training In our country, today the history of classrooms teacher training goes back to Ottoman Period to Darülmuallimin - which opened in 1848. After that, experiment of teacher training was in "Teacher Training Schools" and "Village Institute" at secondary level, then at two years collage. Level by MEB and today at undergraduate level by universities. If the necessity of teacher training can't be met in this way, then they try to get teachers from other sources. Today classrooms teachers are completely trained at university level and appointment of teachers.can't be done by other sources. Consequently, it can be said that Turkey has significant experiment about the classroom teacher training. About the classroom teacher training in theVII point today it can be said that the problem of quantity was solved somewhat and the quality problem was achieved to a large extend. 2. The Findings About the Sufficiency of Classroom Teacher Education Curriculum Based on the ideas of classroom teachers and school managers, the findings about the sufficiency of the Classroom Teacher Training Curricula can be summarized as follows. The Classroom Teacher Trainig Curricula should be reconstructed by taking into consideration the ideas of classroom teachers and school managers who are on duty now, and according to expectations of public. These curriculum should be prepared by the cooperation of MEB and YÖK and in this curricula the hours of such practical courses as Maths, Education In Cooperated Classes, First Writing and Reading Education, Turkish Training, Foreign Language Training, Painting, Music, Sciences, Social Sciences Training, Religion and Physical Education, should be increased. The classroom teachers and school managers who participated in the investigation expressed their ideas in favour of adding these programs the lesson of Education Sociology and Relation With Public. The Classroom Teacher Trainig Curriculum, carried out now, was found out to be sufficient "partially" by classroom teachers and "I agree to a large extend" by school managers.
