Sociological examination on border smuggling and border smuggler: The case of Van

In the study, it was tried to investigate the border smuggling that has been going on since the past and the change process, status and other parameters of the typing or profile of the border smuggler who is the actor of this activity. In the study, literature and field studies about border smuggling and smuggler typing were used. Two groups of questions were formed during the literature review process on the subject. In the first group of questions, literature review was used and research was conducted under the titles of "Goods Subject to Smuggling, Volume of Border Smuggling, Who Is the Border Smuggler, Places Where Smuggling Is Common and Border Smuggling Policies". In the second group questions of the study, the interview technique was made by referring to the field study. As the universe and sample of the study, 30 people, all of whom were men, were interviewed about border smuggling in the province of Van. During the data collection process, 14 open-ended questions were asked to the participants. The subject headings of the second group of questions are "The Occupation Status of Border Smuggler, the Place of Border Smuggler in the Society and How It is Perceived", "The Economic Status of the Border Smuggler and the Economic Differentiation in Smuggling", "The Difference Between the Old and the New Border Smuggler" and "In the Field of Art (novel)", story, poem, cinema, etc.) The subject of Smuggling and Real Life" was evaluated in line with the information obtained at the end of the interview. At the end of the study, it was stated that there was a change in border smuggling and border smuggler typing. As the most important indicators of change, it has been concluded that the dichotomy of smuggling as traditional and modern smuggling, the smuggling processes and types of smugglers become unclear, and it is a burden to be recognized and described in the society. In this process, the types of smuggling, profit and loss calculations, social environment, cultural values etc. change has affected the smuggling and smuggling processes.
