A portrait of a movement from the Cold War to the Arab Spring: Rashed Ghannouichi and the Tunisian Islamist Movement

Rachid al-Ghannouchi is a significant intellectual who has shaped contemporary Islamic politics, both as an Islamic thinker and as the leader of an Islamic political movement. His most significant distinction from other political thinkers stems from his leadership of the Ennahda movement, which, in turn, facilitated a major democratization and post-Islamist transformation in Tunisia. Rashid al-Ghannouchi is an important figure in the Arab world and Tunisia in the 20th century, with her revitalization of civil society by redefining Islamic politics, defining the concept of the state in Islamic tradition, examining its compatibility or conflict with the Islamic state by giving importance to the principles of democracy and secularism, and evaluating the concepts of freedom and human rights in Islamic thought. In this context, this study aims to fill the gap in the literature by addressing the theopolitics of Rashid Ghannouchi after the Arab Spring with the perspective of post-Islamism, which is the conceptual transformation in the basic motivation of Islamic movements, and to reveal how the theoretical framework established between Islamism and post-Islamism was realized in the example of Ennahda.
