Local economic activities towards the applicability of social studies course activities

Although the concept of economy is a concept that is much emphasized, the concept of local economy appears as a field of study that is not emphasized much. It can be said that this is due to the country's use of human, physical and economic fields, which are mostly under the umbrella of the general economy. Within the scope of the research, it was aimed to examine the opinions of 4th grade classroom teachers and 5th, 6th and 7th grade social studies teachers who teach within the scope of social studies, about teaching local economy. Local economic activities are activities that support local production in order to increase the quality of life of the individual and the welfare of the society. One of the main objectives is to provide the individual with an effective citizenship. A successful development process requires revitalizing the local economy. The basis of economic development is determined by local economic processes. Therefore, with an active process, employment increases and the labor market revitalizes. In this way, the economic and social structure is improved, allowing the efficient use and distribution of resources. It is aimed to increase the level of welfare by ensuring the economic and social integration of the country. For this purpose, 30 volunteer teacher participants working in Anamur district of Mersin province were interviewed. Qualitative method was used in the study. Descriptive analysis method was used to analyze the data. Within the scope of the study, "Opinion Form" questions were prepared and the results were obtained and presented in a table in the findings section. In the conclusion and suggestions section, the participants stated that teaching local economy can be used within the scope of Social Studies Course and that local economy teaching should be given importance.
