Abstract (EN)

In order to enable students to enter the schools they want during their transition to secondary education, a new system (Transition System for High Schools) was introduced in 2017-2018 academic year in Turkey. The study group of the research consists of 14 social studies teachers who work in public schools in various provinces. Teacher in the study group attend middle school 8th grade classes. In order to collect data, a semi-structured interview schedule was prepared to conduct interviews with teachers. According to the results of the study, the majority of social studies teachers were not satisfied with the transition to the new high school system. By comparing the new system with the old one, the TEOG System, the teachers stated that the TEOG system is much better and that they should return to the TEOG system. In addition, in the new exam system, it is seen that only 10% of the students are placed in the best schools with the central exam score and the remaining majority do not have chances make school choices with their exam scores and have to choose one of the schools closest to their address within the scope of the address-based registration system. The views expressed by social studies teachers are one of the most admired aspects of LGS. In the History of Revolution and Kemalism test, the question is that the questions are based on understanding, commenting and comprehending beyond asking questions. In line with the opinions of the teachers participating in the interview; weekly hours in social studies are insufficient, even if the student is successful because of the address-based registration system, many students do not want to register in schools, lack of material in schools, parents are unconscious and not enough attention to their children, T.C. It has been reached that the decrease in the number of questions and the coefficient of the history of Turkish Revolution and Atatürkism course discredit the social studies and the level of success in the schools has decreased in general.
