The views of social studies teachers about teaching of patriotism value

The purpose of this study is to lay bare that views of Social Studies teachers about learning process of patriotism value. Case study method has been used in the this study. In the case studies, the detailed informations are tried to be reach by using qualitative data collection methods. İnterview method from qualitative data collection tools has been used to collect data in the this study. Semi-structured interview form has been used as data collection tool in the this study. The semi-structured interview form consists of two parts. First part has been prepared to obtain demographic information from participants. The second part consists of ten interview questions. Semi-structured interview form has been taken its final shape by taking care of corrections and recommendations of two specialist social studies teachers. Afterwards interviews were held with a sample group of 14 Social Studies teachers. In the study, the informations obtained by using semi-structured interview form were subjected to content analysis. According to research results, Social Studies teachers care about values education. According to Social Studies teachers, Social Studies curriculums are inappropriate in terms of teaching patriotism value and they should be improved. According to the teachers, the students have shown interest the course subjects related to the value patriotism, but students have not gained patriotism value at the enough level.
