A research on young unemployed university graduates context of social exclusion: The case of Bursa

The concept of social exclusion, which is discussed in different aspects of social policy literature, is used to explain various deprivations and is associated with citizenship rights. The concept of social exclusion, which refers to a multidimensional and dynamic process, also means that individuals can not fully participate in economic, social and political life. In social exclusion, globalization process, neo-liberal policies, labor markets and the transformation of the welfare state are effective. There is also a close relationship between social exclusion and labor markets. Nowadays, on the one hand, unemployment becomes a structural problem, and on the other hand, the widespread spread of precarious employment makes broad communities face the phenomenon of social exclusion. Because unemployment is both a cause and a dimension of social exclusion. In this context, unemployment, which is also widespread among educated young people, causes educated youth to experience social exclusion in life. This study aims to investigate the experiences of social exclusion of educated young unemployed. Proceeding from this purpose; the firstly, conceptual framework of social exclusion and educated youth unemployment was transferred. Then, a field study conducted on the subject in Bursa was included. Field research was carried out by adopting the phenomonological approach among the qualitative research methods. Within the framework of the research, semi-structured interviews were conducted with twenty-six educated young unemployed in Bursa. The data obtained within the framework of the interviews were divided into several categories and their relationship with social exclusion was examined. As a result of the research, it was found that participants were excluded from economic, political and welfare services due to unemployment.
