The basic determinants of participation to sports (demand) in the sports industry: Field research in Tekirdağ province

The aim of this dissertation is to research the conceptual structure of the Tekirdağ sports industry in the youth and adults and analyse their request to do sports in relation to several variables. In order to so, descriptive research model and convenience sampling method have been used on the basis of the "Participation into Sports Scale", according to the 2019-2020 data obtained from the Turkish Statistic Institution (TÜİK) and the Civil Registrar. Kruskall Wallis has been applied to research more than two groups as non-parametric test through SPSS for Windows 22.0. Posthoc Tukey tests have been applied to identify the variable that causes differences. Mann Whitney U Analysis has been applied in the comparison of independent pair groups as non-parametric test. The scale question items have been evaluated individually for age groups and gender through Ki Square Analysis. The findings have been assessed in 95% confidence interval and 5% significance level. As we can see in the responses to the questions on the supply, demand and awareness for sportive activities in the Tekirdağ region, the participants have inadequate knowledge about the current situation of sport activity fields. We have observed that the status of the existing sports centers and their status were not known; and 90% of the respondents did not participate in sports activities. Furthermore, we have understood that they could not join sportive activities due to the inconvenience of sport fields, the impact of distance and transportation facilities, the high prices of sport equipment, their inability to spend a budget for sports centers and activities, and their work load and tight schedules.
