The tendency of bullying students who study at sports high school and the role of sports in collecting with bullying (Aydın province example)

It has been aimed in this study to examine the bullying tendencies of students attending sports high school and the role of sports in coping with bullying. The population of the study consists of 440 students studying at İncirliova Sports High School in the 2019-2020 academic year (N=440). The sample, on the other hand, has been calculated with the known sampling method and consists of 206 students (N=206). Typical case sampling method was used in the selection of the school where the study will be conducted. The sample of the study consisted of individuals determined by the simple random sampling method, which is one of the random sampling methods. Survey forms were conducted upon approval from Aydın Adnan Menderes University Institute of Health Sciences Non-Interventional Research Ethics Committee and obtaining permission from the relevant institutions. Survey applications were delivered to the participants via Google Forms and participation in the study was based on voluntariness. The forms were delivered to a total of 233 people and 17 forms that were found to be incomplete or incorrect, and 2 forms were not evaluated as a result of outlier extreme values analysis, a total of 214 forms were evaluated. The personal information scale created by the researcher was used in the first part, the Bullying Tendency Scale developed by Dölek (2002) was used in the second part and the t Bullying Coping Scale developed by Dölek (2002) was used in the third part as a data collection tool. The research findings in this study were carried out using the SPSS 25.0 package software in line with the data obtained from the participants. Descriptive statistics and frequency distributions were calculated to determine the personal information of the participants. It was determined that the parametric test assumptions were not met as a result of the Kolmogrov Smirnov test, which was conducted in order to determine whether the data showed a normal distribution and in conclusion Mann Whitney U test was applied for binary variables and Kruskal Wallis H test was applied for more than two variables. In addition, Spearman correlation coefficient (r) was used to determine whether there is a relationship between students' Bullying Tendencies and Coping with Bullying. Moreover, the relationship between academic self-efficacy and attitudes towards sports was tested with Spearman's ordinal relation (rho). It is seen that there is no statistically significant difference between the bullying tendencies of the participants and gender, age, class, frequency of doing sports, and sports experience (p>0.05). As a result of the Man Whitney U test performed between coping with bullying and gender variable, it is seen that there is a statistically significant difference in the sub-dimensions of resistance to bullying awareness of reporting bullying and awareness of not being unresponsive (p<0.05); there is a statistically significant difference only in the sub-dimension of resistance to bullying (p<0.05) as a result of the Man Whitney U test performed between the level of bullying tendency and the age variable; there is a statistically significant difference only in the sub-dimension of reporting bullying (p<0.05) as a result of Kruskal Wallis H test performed between bullying tendency levels and class variables; there is a statistically significant difference in the sub-dimensions of non-responsiveness and defensiveness (p<0.05) as a result of the Kruskal Wallis H test performed between the variables of bullying tendency and the frequency of doing sports; there is no statistically significant difference in the total and all sub-dimensions of the scale (p>0.05) as a result of the Kruskal Wallis H test performed between the levels of coping with bullying and their sports history. As a result, it is seen that the total scores of the students' Bullying Tendency Levels are very high, and the total scores of Coping with Bullying are at a low level.
