The role of perfectionism and mental toughness in predicting intolerance of uncertainty in athletes

The aim of this study is to compare the role of perfectionism and mental toughness in the prediction of intolerance of uncertainty in athletes with various variables such as gender, age, education level, living environment, years of sport experience and sport branch type. While the population of the study consisted of athletes living in Turkey, the sample group consisted of 386 volunteer athletes, 204 women and 182 men. As a data collection tool in the study, the "Personal Information Form" created by the researcher was used. The Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale developed by Freeston-Rhéaume, Letarte Dugas and Ladouceur (1994) and adapted into Turkish by Sarı and Dağ (2009), and the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale developed by Sheard, Golby, and Wersch (2009) to determine the level of mental endurance in the sport environment, The Mental Endurance Scale in Sport, which was adapted into Turkish by Altıntaş and Koruç (2016), and the Sport Specific Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale developed by Dunn, Causgrove-Dunn, and Syrotuik (2002) and whose validity and reliability study for Turkish athletes was conducted by Çepikkurt (2011) were used. The data obtained were uploaded to the SPSS 25.0 program. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the data were normally distributed and parametric tests were used in statistical analysis. Posthoc LSD analyses were performed for the differences found in the variables of gender, age, education level, living environment, years of sport experience and sport branch type, which were examined by ANOVA and t-test. As a result of the analyzes; it was determined that mental endurance increased as the level of education increased, the mental endurance levels of female participants were lower than male participants, and the mental endurance levels of the participants increased with increasing sports experience.
