Abstract (EN)

Personality disorders are common disorders which significantly impair social and occupational functioning, and negatively impact interpersonal relationships. They may be comorbid with a variety of other psychiatric disorders. Despite high prevalence, their assessment and diagnosis is a challenging and time consuming process. Therefore, brief and simple screening tools are required to facilitate the clinical approach. The aims of this study are to translate the Standardised Assessment of Personality-Abbreviated Scale (SAPAS) and The Iowa Personality Disorder Screen (IPDS) to Turkish, conduct validity and reliability analyses of the respective Turkish versions. Turkish versions of the scales were applied to a total of 82 patients during a study period of approximately 4 months and the scales were filled in by 77 of the 82 included patients. Sociodemographic characteristics of all subjects who participated in the study were evaluated. The translated SAPAS and IPDS were administered face-to-face, and Coolidge Axis II Inventory Plus Turkish-Short Form (CATI+TR-SF) was administered as self-report. Thirty three of 77 patients were diagnosed with at least one personality disorder according to CATI+TR-SF. The internal consistency of the Turkish versions of SAPAS was evaluated to be poor SAPAS, whereas IPDS displayed a moderate reliability (α=0.50 and α=0.68, respectively). The retest reliability of the scale items was evaluated via re-applying the scales to 32 participants with an average interval of 3 weeks, and the Pearson correlation coefficients for both scales (r(30)=.78, p < .001 for SAPAS and r(30)=.84, p < .001 for IPDS) has been observed to be highly reliable. It has been shown that a total score of ³5 for SAPAS and a total score of ³5 for IPDS can be useful for screening for any personality disorder. As a result, it has been displayed that the Turkish versions of both SAPAS and IPDS are valid and reliable scales.
