Abstract (EN)

Children's literature is a subject often studied less than other subjects in translation studies. It is observed that research in Turkey mostly focuses on the translations from other languages into Turkish based on several theories in the discipline. This study aims to view the field from a different point of view. The primary aim of this study is to explore Mo'nun Gizemi and its translation through the lens of descriptive text analysis and Nord's extratextual factors. This current research utilizes a qualitative case study design. Two types of data are included in this study: books —Mo'nun Gizemi and Burtch & Dahpne: And the Secret of the Mo—and the interview with the source text author. This study shows how the extratextual factors are applied in the case books and the relationship between the translation and the function of the target text. The facts that the number of pages of the source and the target texts differs greatly in quantity and the translator is not known, have lead the study to use a descriptive text analysis instead of Nord's intratextual elements. As a result, a difference has been observed between the functions of the source and the target text, and it is observed that the most frequently used translation strategy in terms of descriptive analysis is omission.
