Abstract (EN)
This is an intervention study aiming to determine the effect of two different methods on student success in the teaching of subcutaneous injection. Of 77 students attending the principles of nursing class in the academic year of 2006?2007, 59 were included in the study. Study group comprises 31 students and control group 28 students. The literature regarding the issue was reviewed by the investigator and experts were consulted for preparing `Lesson content of the practice of subcutaneous injection? and `Subcutanous injection practice CD? in computer medium. The data were collected using `Subcutanous Injection practice contol list? form? and `Subcutaneous injection practice success test?. Data were collected by an independent observer who was not involved with the study and who is an expert on the principles of nursing. In the statistical evaluation of the data, the difference between subcutanous injection procedure steps was analysed using Chi-square tests and mean success rates analysed with Mann-Whitney U test. In the present study, no significant difference was found between students whose education was carried out with CD and those who were trained with present methods with regard to students success in 16 procedure steps whereas significant difference was established in 8 procedure steps. It was established that students educated using CD were more successful especially in carrying out injection. It was also established that the students in study group had higher success scores and had a favorable opinion of CD use. Recommendations have been made in view of the results of the study. Key words: Nursing Education, Computer Assisted Learning, Traditional Education
