Abstract (EN)

This research has been carried out to reveal the relation between the offences committed by the people who commit crimes and their educational backgrounds. The institutional foundations of this research have been constituted by scanning various literatures.The research showing compliance with trial model has been carried out with 161 prisoners, who were in Istanbul province, Umraniye E ? type and T ? type Prison and Bakirkoy closed women's prison facility in 2008.All the prisoners included in the research have been applied a survey consisting of 39 questions. The survey has been prepared the supervision of an expert.In the scope of research, datums which was collected and statistical analysises was mode using with SPSS packet programme. The t test practicing was made related with differences between the prisoners opinions. About the discoveries was suggested with debating.When the results obtained from the performed analyses have been summarized, some results regarding the provisions were reached:1. More than half of the prisoners were primary school graduated or they have never received education in any school at all;2. The crime rate was higher in big cities;3. Income levels of the 1/3 of the prisoners were below the minimum wage and the income levels other 1/3 were below 1000 YTL;4. It becomes clear that it is hard to say only one factor is effective urging for crime; this can be vary according to place, time, condition and environment.It reveals that the prisoners think poverty and lack of education respectively are the most effective factors urging for crime.
