Abstract (EN)

Hyacinthus plant is an important ornamental plant, that bear white, yellow, pink, red and purple colored flowers and has about 2000 species around the world that are grown commercially. Although, plant occurs naturally in Turkey yet its open field cultivation is not performed. This study reports culture of Hyacinthus orientalis collected from the provinces of Adiyaman and Malatya in Southeastern Anatolia Region at Ornamental Garden Collection of Faculty of Agriculture, Dicle University, Diyarbakır. Besides this immature embryos were collected 8-11 days after anthesis and cultured on MS medium containing different concentrations of TDZ, TDZ + NAA, KIN, KIN + NAA. The leaves were obtained from the germinating embryos and cultured on MS medium containing different concentrations of Benzylaminopurine (BAP) + 0.1 mg/L naphtaleneacetic acid (NAA) supplemented with 30 g/L sucrose. Callus induction followed by bulb formation was noted on basal leaves of Hyacinthus. The bulblets were cultured on modified MS medium containing 20 mg/L GA3 and MS + 50 g/L sucrose to increase bulb diameter. A significant increase in bulb diameter was noted on Hyacinthus orientalis bulbs, they were taken to incubator for rooting.
