Abstract (EN)
Throughout human history, the dynamics of our relationship with nature have been in a state of continuous transformation. In today's modern era, our planet confronts a myriad of challenges, ranging from climate change and biodiversity loss to pollution and resource depletion. To address these challenges, the concept of sustainability has been adopted. However, concerns have arisen that this approach may not sufficiently mitigate the existing issues, sparking debates about the necessity of going beyond sustainability. This beyond sustainability approach aims to meet human needs while also providing a positive impact on nature. Collaboratively designed products and systems in harmony with nature are seen as potential solutions. Yet, the effects of these products and systems on consumer groups remain an inadequately researched area. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the effects of product experiences designed in the beyond sustainability context on consumers. Additionally, the research aims to unveil the potential of product designs within this advanced sustainability framework. Data for this study were gathered using two main methods: surveys and semi-structured interviews. Surveys were designed to obtain quantitative data and capture participants' perspectives and responses, while semi- structured interviews facilitated a deeper exploration of the topic, yielding qualitative insights. Following data collection, a systematic approach was adopted for analysis. Survey data underwent statistical evaluations to identify trends and patterns, whereas interview responses were dissected through thematic analysis to discern underlying themes and insights. Collectively, these methodologies enabled a comprehensive understanding of the research subject. The study offers a holistic view of how product designs are perceived within the beyond sustainability paradigm. An important finding is that products that cooperate with nature generally elicit positive reactions from consumers. This underscores consumers' appreciation for designs that not only minimize waste but also actively contribute to natural cycles. A notable characteristic of products in the beyond sustainability domain is their innovative design features, attributed to the novelty of this design field. These innovative design elements and functionalities captivated consumers, evoking feelings of intrigue, curiosity, and aesthetic appreciation. Such reactions indicate potential impacts in garnering consumer interest and potentially shaping market trends. Conversely, given that products framed within the context of advanced sustainability deviate significantly from established cultural and consumer consumption habits, they have engendered various prejudices and reservations. The novelty of the materials employed in the context of beyond sustainability products has led to inquiries regarding their durability and reliability. In conclusion, this research seeks to shed light on prospective developments and tendencies in product designs within this burgeoning domain. To maximize the realization of these potentials, the study culminates with a series of guidelines specifically curated for designers.
