Investigation of the relationship between psychological resilience and perceived social support of Syrian children and adolescents

In this research, psychological robustness levels of the Syrian children and adolescents and types of social support they perceive were examined in terms of demographic variables. A total of 147 students (88 girls, 59 boys) who attended to the summer schools (language and compensation education) that are being opened in Mezitli district of Mersin, and for the students of Temporary Education Centers (closed in 2017), participated to this research. Personal Information Form, Social Support Assessment Scale for Children and Psychological Wellness Scale (short form) were used as data collection tools within the scope of the research. According to the research result; there is a relationship between psychological robustness and social support, and the perceived family support effects psychological stability, the family support perceived by children who have year-loss is low, the psychological stability and perceived social support of the children and adolescents receiving help due to the stress they experience are high, language variables, physical abuse (domestic violence, violence at school) and witnessing domestic violence effects perceived social support and psychological robustness levels. At the same time, when their emotional and thought states of the Syrian children and adolescents were examined of this study, it was observed that they had many findings related to resilience risk factors. Nevertheless, it is found out that the vast majority of participants did not feel alone, that they feel self-confident that they will be successful and want to return to their country. All evidences are discussed within the scope of the field text.
