Abstract (EN)

The research titled "Missionary Activities in Tanzania: The Case of the Lutheran Church" is very important in understanding the progress of missionary work in Africa and the parallelism between colonialism and missionary work. As a preliminary information, the history of Tanzania and the presence of Islam, Christianity and other religions in Tanzania were examined. In the main subject of the research, it was determined that Lutheran missionaries first came to Tanzania with Johann Ludwig Krapf (1810-1881) and Johannes Rebmann (1820-1876). Later, it was understood that Lutheran mission activities, which continued with various Lutheran missionary groups, gained momentum especially with the Leibzig Mission Society. In the research, the difficulties faced by Lutheran mission groups in Tanzania while carrying out their activities were identified and the methods they used in the face of these difficulties were examined. The formation of ELCT (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania) is discussed chronologically and the reflections of Lutheran mission teachings on Africa are discussed. Keywords: Tanzania, TANU, Leibzig, ELCT.
