Abstract (EN)

Prepositions are linguistic elements that affect the words they accompany in various ways and perform different functions in sentences. These structures, when used alone, do not convey meaning, and are generally considered as auxiliary words. Case prepositions, however, are used in conjunction with nouns in a sentence, adding meanings such as distinction, similarity, direction, time, cause, togetherness, and quantity. These prepositions, which can derive from various origins, enhance the semantic richness of the language and regulate the relationships between elements within a sentence. The use of these prepositions varies according to the genre, period, and style of literary works. In poetry, they are used to concretize abstract concepts, while in novels and stories, they strengthen character relationships. Modern literature uses these prepositions in a simple way to enhance the fluency of the language, while deepening meaning and reinforcing connections. Scientific studies on case prepositions in the Turkish language are of great importance in understanding the relationships between meaning, context, and grammar. Researchers such as Necmettin Hacıeminoğlu, Muharrem Ergin, Zeynep Korkmaz and Kâmil Tiken have explained the role of case prepositions in Turkish sentence structure. These studies provide significant insights into the contributions of case prepositions to meaning and structure. The master's thesis titled "Case Prepositions in the Tarama Dictionary" was created using the eight-volume "Survey Dictionary", prepared by Dehri Dilçin and Ömer Asım Aksoy and published by the Turkish Language Institution in 2019. The main focus of the study is the case prepositions found in the dictionary. The identification of these prepositions was based on Necmettin Hacıeminoğlu's work, Prepositions in Turkish. According to the analysis in the Survey Dictionary", the most frequently encountered case prepositions include ile, için, içün, sonra, tâ, and artuk. The study is divided into three sections. The introduction explains the thesis's objectives, goals, and methodology. The first section covers the formation process and historical development of the Survey Dictionary. The second section discusses prepositions and the views of Turkish linguists on them, along with the various classifications of these prepositions. The third section identifies the case prepositions found in the Survey Dictionary, showing their frequency of use and which prepositions are most commonly used.
