Abstract (EN)
In this study aimed to determine and update the prevalence, serotype distribution and antibiotic resistance profiles of Salmonella enterica serovars in fecal samples taken from poultry farms and slaughterhouses. A total of 550 samples, including cloacal swab and slaughterhouse material (cecum) from poultry farms and slaughterhouses in Istanbul, Balıkesir, Erzurum and Erzincan provinces, were examined for Salmonella spp. between March 2020 and December 2021. ISO 6579:2002/Amd 1:2007 culture method was used to detect Salmonella spp. in the collected samples. Strains identified as Salmonella spp. by conventional tests were confirmed with PCR and BD Phoenix™ using primers specific to the invasion A (invA) gene. The isolates were serotyped according to the White-Kauffmann-Le Minor-Scheme. The isolates were examined for multiple antibiotic resistance, Extended-spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL), carbapenem and AmpC beta lactamase positivity. According to the appearance of these samples on the selective solid medium, 76 isolates (13.8%) were determined to have a suspicious Salmonella spp. colony appearance. As a result of conventional biochemical tests, BD Phoenix™ M50 device and PCR analysis, 50 isolates (9.1%, 50/550) were confirmed to be Salmonella spp. All of the isolates serotyped according to the White Kauffmann-Le Minor-Scheme were determined to be Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Molade (8,20:z10:z6). As a result of the antimicrobial susceptibility test, it was determined that the isolates were 100.0% (50/50) resistant to ciprofloxacin and 88% (44/50) resistant to tigecycline. All isolates were determined to be negative for Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL), carbapenem and AmpC beta lactamase. No multiple antibiotic resistant isolates were identified in this study, as none of the isolates showed resistance to three or more antibiotics. The results obtained showed that the high rate of ciprofloxacin and tigecycline resistance detected in S. Molade isolates detected in animals coming to the slaughterhouse from an integrated enterprise in Turkey, although there were no animal preparations, should be emphasized and that these antibiotics are very important for public health. It was thought that the antibiotic panels used to detect resistance, especially in animal isolates, should be updated and the resistance situations that may develop in antibiotics that are important for public health, even if they are not used in animals, should be constantly monitored.
