Burnout levels of medical social workers

The main purpose of this study is to determine the burnout levels of hospital employeesand to explain whether there is a difference in burnout levels according to demographic variables. In this study, "Maslach Burnout Inventory" which was developed by Maslach and Jackson (1986) and adapted to Turkish by Ergin (1992) was used to measure burnout levels of employees. The sample of the study consists of Medical Social Workers. In the collection of data; participant information form which was prepared in the light of literature and Maslach Burnout Scale which determined burnout levels were used and the results were evaluated statistically. SPSS 16.0 software was used for data analysis. In the research, the definition of social work, the definition of medical social work, the definition of burnout, its dimensions and stages are discussed. Subsequently, factors affecting burnout and burnout models, effects, consequences and prevention of burnout, and evaluation of burnout levels of medical social workers. In the data analysis section of the research, the relationship between demographic characteristics, emotional exhaustion score, depersonalization score, low personal accomplishment score and overall burnout mean scores were explained.The average burnout levelsof the Medical Social Workers participating in the study are follows. The average level of emotional exhaustion 41.68, the average of the depersonalization level of 25.13 and personal failure is 29.39. There was no significant difference between gender and burnout level (p=0.268>0.050). There is a significant difference between education level and emotional exhaustion subdimension (p=0.000<0.050). As a result of the one –way analysis of variance conducted to determine whether the burnout levels of medical social workers differ significantly according to the general score and the service time variable, the difference between the group averages was found to be statistically significant (p = 0.002 <0.050).
