Abstract (EN)

XI SUMMARY Turkish Textile Industry takes the first place in cotton production and the ninth in sewing cotton production among the European Union Countries. 40% of the export figure covers the textile and ready-made products. Regional split of the textile production shows that the centre is now Marmara Region especially Istanbul. Based on 1997 ITKIB projections, exportation figure of ready-made products will reach a value of US$7.1 billion and of textile and raw material a value of US$2.8 billion. Being a new member of Eurocotton, Europe's biggest cotton products importer, Turkey will have a very good trading and marketing advantage and it is assumed that the membership will bring major benefits to Turkey. Turkey has become the production centre of Europe with its technology, trained man power, know-how and investments in textile and ready-made products. In order to protect the positive outcomes of the Customs Union signed on January 1st, 1996, the solutions should be supported with consistent industry, exportation and investment policies. To maintain the competition with European Union and 3rd World Countries, suitable circumstances should be provided for the growth. There should be structural renovation at Customs Houses and Custom Entries in advance based on the human resources and technological view. More emphasis should be put on promotion, high-quality and market orientation of the products. It is seen that there is a potential for textile exportation in Antalya Region. There has been attempts to enlarge the textile Industry and investigations are continuing. There should be more serious studies on the Industry for the future of that lovely tourism centre.
