Abstract (EN)
In this study, the predictive power subtests of high school admission exam (TEOG) to subtests of higher education admission exam (YKS) has been investigated. The population of the research consists of a total of 1149 students who took TEOG and YKS in Vezirköprü district of Samsun in 2013-2014 and 2017-2018 academic years, respectively. The group of the research consists of 459 students. TEOG and YKS subtest raw scores of the same student were considered for the research. In the first two sub problems, the relation between TEOG subtest raw scores in verbal and quantitative sections and YKS subtest raw scores in verbal and quantitative sections was analyzed by Pearson correlation. In the third subproblem, which subtests predicted the scores of placement in YKS were analyzed by using multiple regression analysis. According to the research results; correlations in verbal sections vary between -0.171 and 0.690 while the correlations in quantitative sections vary between 0.051 and 0.745. It is observed that the correlations between TEOG and TYT subtests are higher than the correlations between TEOG and AYT subtests. The most predictive variables for TYT are mathematics (2nd), history (1st), mathematics (1st), religious culture (1st), science and technology (2nd) subtests. The most predictive variables for the quantitative scores are mathematics (2nd), mathematics (1st), history (1st) subtests. The most predictive variables for the equally-weighted scores are history (2nd), mathematics (2nd), English (1st), Turkish (2nd) subtests. The most predictive variables for the verbal scores are Turkish (2nd), history (1st), religious culture (1st), history (2nd) subtests.
