The effect of creating community of inquiry in flipped writing course on paragraph writing skills of the university students

This study was conducted to reveal the effect of creating community of inquiry in flipped writing course on paragraph writing skills of the university students. The research carried out at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University School of Foreign Languages consists of 34 participants in total, 17 of whom are in the experimental group and 17 in the control group. The implementation process of the study lasted for 8 weeks. A pre-test – post-test semi-experimental design with unequalised control group, one of the quantitative research models, was used. The qualitative part of the research consisted of the data obtained from the structured lesson observation form. In the research, the experimental and control groups were asked to write academic paragraphs as pre-test and post-test and these paragraphs were evaluated using the Academic Paragraph Evaluation Criteria prepared by Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University School of Foreign Languages Assessment and Evaluation Unit. The data obtained with the data collection tools was analysed using the SPSS program and when the paragraph writing skills of the students in the control group, who received theoretical knowledge in the traditional classroom environment and practiced individually in the limited time remaining and the students in the experimental group, who learn the theoretical knowledge outside the classroom in the pre-writing stage through flipped learning and have the opportunity to create inquiry societies and practice continuously were compared, it was observed that there was a statistically significant difference.
