Abstract (EN)

The existence of life, torment and blessing in the grave is a subject accepted by the Ahl as-Sunnah, based mostly on narrational evidence. On the other hand, it is controversial what kind of acceptance the Mu'tazila have regarding life in the grave. In the Ahl al-Sunnah literature, especially in the early Ash'ari sources, the view that Mu'tazila denies life in the grave is widespread. However, when the works of Mutezile's representatives, especially in the last period, are examined, it is possible to obtain different information on this subject. The aim of this study is to determine whether the opinions that Mu'tazila denies life in the grave are true, based on their own authentic and accurate sources, and to examine the issue through them. According to the information obtained in the research, Qâdi Abdülcebâr, İbnü'lMelâhimî and Zemahseri, among the late representatives of Mu'tazila, accepted the existence of torment in the grave. They argued that there is blessing or torment in the grave, based on rational and narrative evidence. Their difference from the Ahl asSunnah in this regard is mostly in the time and duration of the torment in the grave. It can be thought that the information in Ahl as-Sunnah sources that Mu'tazila rejects punishment in the grave is more valid for the first representatives of Mu'tazila. Additionally, different possible reasons for this are examined in our thesis. In the study, the issues in question were investigated by scanning and analyzing Sunni and Mu'tazili sources. Key Words: Word, Mu'tazila, Grave, Torment, Blessing
