Abstract (EN)
After the defeat of Greek in Anatolia on 9 September 1922, the Turkish Government in Ankara and the Allied Powers agreed to convene at a conference in order to make peace by solving many issues left by the Ottoman Empire, which the new Turkish Government did not accept. In this conference, which was convened in 2 November 1922 under the name of "Lausanne Peace Conference on Near East Problems", important issues that remain uncertain such as borders, debts from the Ottoman Empire, capitulations, privileges, the Armenian homeland, the future of Mosul, and the status of the Straits were discussed. As a result of this intense and stressful conference, Turkey's founding treaty, the Lausanne Peace Treaty, was signed on 24 July 1923 and Turkey was recognized as an independent state in the international arena. During the 9 months of the Lausanne Peace Conference, the local and foreign press closely followed this conference. One of these press organs was The Times, one of the well-established newspapers in England. The Times published the dialogues, discussions and conclusions at the conference in its columns every day with its own interpretation. This thesis aims to reveal how the Lausanne Peace Conference was echoed in the foreign press, how it was conveyed to the world's public opinion, and what kind of process took place in the conference, utilizing the archives of The Times newspaper. Keywords: Lausanne Peace Conderence, The Times, Turkey.
