Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT CHEMICAL COMPOUND ANALYSIS OF ESSENTIAL OILS EXTRACTED FROM LEAVES AND FRUITS OF COMMERICIALLY PRODUCED CITRUS MEDICA L. SPECIES Citrus species are one of the most widely cultivated plants due to its food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic utilizations globally and in our country. Among the species Citrus medica is less studied in terms of its essential oil content and rarely known phytochemistry. With this study we aimed to compare the different essential oils obtained from different parts of the commercially available Citrus medica plant by using different extraction methods followed by GC/MS analyses. The essential oil obtained from peels of the fruit by clevenger apparatus consists of %50.4 linalool, %26.6 limonene ve %10.4 linalyl acetate, whereas the leaves with same method yielded %30.34 linalool, %29.3 linalyl acetate ve %10.4 α-terpinol The essential oil obtained by cold-press method, from the pericarp of the fruit, consists of 34.4% limonen, 31.7% linalyl acetate whereas the essential oil obtained from leaf with cold press yielded a chemical composition of 70.9% linaly acetate, %3.1 limonen and 2.4% linalool as major constituents. Keywords: Citrus medica; Essential oil; Clevenger; Cold Pres, GC/MS
