Abstract (EN)

In childhood, type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common chronic disease that develops absolute insulin deficiency leading to the destruction of pancreatic beta cells. Fourty patients with type 1 DM who were followed-up in Uludag University Faculty of Medicine Pediatric Endocrinology Polyclinic 40 patients serum without endocrinological and renal disease who were admitted to Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine Pediatric General Polyclinic were taken in appropriate conditions. Mindin, nephrine, podocalyxin levels were measured. Of the 80 patients who made up the total patient and control group, 43 (53.7%) were female and 37 (46.2%) were male. Of the patients with type 1 DM, 17 (42.5%) were female and 23 (57.5%) were male. Of the control group, 26 (65%) were female and 14 (35%) were male. The mean age of the patient group was 14.5 years and the mean age of the control group was 13.3 years. Nine (22.5%) of the patients were followed-up for less than 5 years with DM and 31 (77.5%) of the patients were followed-up with a diagnosis of DM over 5 years. The mean age of the patients who were followed-up with DM for 5 years was 14.6 years, and the mean age of the patients who were followed-up with diabetes for 5 years was 14 years. The patient and control group were all in the pubertal stage. Serum podocalyxin levels of the patient group were significantly lower when compared with control group serum levels of podocalyxin (p = 0.014). When the serum nephrine levels were compared between the two groups, the nephrine levels were significantly lower in the patient group (p = 0.016). There was no significant difference in serum mindin levels between the two groups (p = 0.053). In our study, we found that renal nephrine and podocalyxin expression decreased in DM patients and blood levels of nephrine and podocalyxin were decreased. There was no significant difference between the serum levels of the patient group and the control group. In our study, if urine nephrine and podocalyxin levels could be examined, urinary excretion could be increased. In the follow-up of these patients 10-20 years later, serum and urinary bladder, podocalyxin, nephrine levels can be obtained with more meaningful results.
