Abstract (EN)
Type 1 diabetes is a disease characterized by absolute insulin deficiency. It is a condition that affects the individual both physiologically and psychologically. This disease, which requires continuous follow-up, affects individuals psychosocially. It is seen that individuals accept the disease and adapt to the disease better and are at a good psychosocial level. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between the level of acceptance of the disease and psychosocial adjustment of adults with type 1 diabetes. The study was conducted on individuals with type 1 diabetes between the ages of 18-65 living in Istanbul, on online platforms, between 10.03.2021 and 15.04.2021. A total of 300 people, including 233 female participants and 67 male participants, were studied. In order to determine the relationship between the level of acceptance of the disease and the level of psychosocial adjustment of the participants included in the study, the "Sociodemographic Form", "The Level of Acceptance of the Disease" and "Psychosocial Adjustment Scale" were applied. As a result of the research, the level of acceptance of the disease (X=28.38) and psychosocial adjustment level (X=28.42) of the participants were found to be high. As a result of the study, a statistically significant difference (p=0.00) was found between the level of acceptance of the disease and age of adult individuals with type 1 diabetes. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the level of acceptance of the disease is higher in adults with type 1 diabetes with a higher education level (p=0.00). A significant difference (p=0.02) was found between the level of acceptance of the disease and the level of income of the participants, and the level of acceptance of the disease was found to be higher in adult individuals with type 1 diabetes with a high income level. As a result of the study, a significant difference was found between income level and psychosocial adjustment (p=0.00). It was concluded that those with higher income levels had better psychosocial adjustment. It was determined that there was a high positive correlation between the disease acceptance levels of the participants and their psychosocial adjustment levels (p=0.00). It was concluded that the psychosocial adjustment of the diabetics with a high acceptance level of the disease was high, and the psychosocial adjustment of the diabetics with a low level of acceptance of the disease was low. There is a need for more comprehensive and larger sample studies examining the relationship between acceptance of the disease and psychosocial adjustment in individuals with diabetes.
