Analysis and periodic characteristics of Tophane Kasri ornamentations

When we look at the classical period ornamentation that has persisted for centuries, we see a period known as the Westernization era in the field of art, which emerged after a tightly regulated structure based on motifs such as Rumi, Hatai, and similar ones. During this period, Late Period Ornamentation elements were used in our art fields, and we observe that the culture of motif patterns had its origins in the West. As the art movements such as Baroque, Rococo, and Empire reached the Anatolian region and started to be used with a touch of localization, we see that this mixture of styles in ornamentation was referred to as "eclectic." In this context, the "Tophane Kasrı" structure, along with its historical and cultural background, is an architectural structure that contributed to the sociological and economic structure of the Tophane district. With its architectural features, construction and application techniques, the architect who worked on it, and most importantly, the architectural ornamentation programs it housed, it is a structure that left its mark on the era with the "Baroque" style. It is a prominent structure with its location, architecture, functions, and the ornamental characteristics it has housed both inside and outside. The process of the interior decorations of Tophane Kasrı, which has continued from its construction to the present day, forms the subject of our thesis.
