Examining the effects of developments regarding society 5.0 on new professions and business areas: The case of Mersin University

Society 5.0 is seen as a strategy that cares about the use of smart technologies with the effects of rapid developments in digitalization. From this aspect, Society 5.0 is also known as the Super Smart Society model in which artificial intelligence and smart robots have taken place in the society. The focus of Society 5.0, introduced by Japan, is that society benefit from technology without being opposed to technological developments. The developments related to Society 5.0 are built on the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Technology has an important place in the impact of developments related to Society 5.0 on new professions and business areas. In this context, it has become valuable for individuals to develop their competence so that they can adapt to new professions and business areas. This thesis consists of two main parts, the theoretical part and the practical part. In the theoretical part of the study, the concept of Society 5.0 has been examined in detail, and new professions and business areas have been discussed in line with the developments in terms of Society 5.0. In the application part of the study, a face-to-face survey technique was applied in order to raise the awareness of the undergraduate students of Mersin University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations to the concept of Society 5.0 and to measure their knowledge and awareness levels regarding the developments in terms of Society 5.0. In addition, it has been tried to determine the perspectives of the students in examining the effects of the developments experienced in terms of Society 5.0 on new professions and business areas. SPSS 22 package program was used for the analyzes done in the thesis study.
