A qualitative research on senior woman entrepreneurship in Turkey at the intersection of gender, entrepreneurship and age

Senior entrepreneurship gains more importance with the ageing of society. Even though this is an emerging concept in the international literature, there is a lack of studies on senior entrepreneurship in Turkey. This research aims at demonstrating the genderized of nature of being senior women entrepreneurs in Turkey by considering the intersectionality approach. This study adopts a qualitative research method that includes semi-structured in-depth interviews. Based on the snowball sampling and data saturation level, I conducted 16 interviews with senior women entrepreneurs. Furthermore, I adopt thematic analysis by using NVIVO 11 as a data categorisation tool. The three main themes of this research are "The Role of The Family as An Institution in Senior Women Entrepreneurship", "The Role of Capital(Economic, Social and Symbolic) in Senior Entrepreneurship", and "Senior Women Entrepreneurship in Cultural Context". The contribution of this research is to highlight the discussion on entrepreneurship studies which are mostly relied on masculinity field by considering women entrepreneurship with the axis of age. Also, this study contributes to the practitioners by highlighting the need for creating projects that encompass social sustainability and equality approach by using the advantage of senior women entrepreneurs in order to provide economic welfare for Turkey.
