Abstract (EN)

Gender inequality is one of the most significant obstacles to social and economic development on a global scale. The main objective of this study is to analyze women's place in the family and society from an economic perspective, reveal the effects of gender-based inequalities on the economic system, and offer policy recommendations for women's empowerment. This study uses document analysis as a qualitative research method. The thesis examines gender inequality within the framework of feminist theories, historical processes, and economic perspectives, and provides a detailed analysis of the position of women in the family, society, and economy in Türkiye. The first chapter defines the concept of gender and compares various feminist theories, from liberal feminism to ecofeminism. The second chapter examines changes in women's social status from ancient Greece to the present day, focusing on their historical representation in Turkish communities and detailing feminist critiques of the discipline of economics. The third chapter presents analyses based on current data on women's employment in Türkiye, revealing that female unemployment increases exponentially compared to male unemployment as the level of education rises. This study highlights the structural causes of gender inequality in Türkiye and emphasizes the urgent need to implement policies aimed at empowering women.
