Investigation of medical school students views on normal and cesarean birth

This study was conducted as a descriptive and cross-sectional study in order to determine the views of medical students about normal and cesarean delivery. Between 14 may -21 may 2019, 117 first grade , 76 second grade, 69 firth grade , 56 fifth grade ,63 intern student at faculty of medical in Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University were taken into the sample. In the study, a questionnaire consisting of 26 questions was used as a data collection tool. The questionnaire used consists of two parts related to sociodemographic characteristics and type of birth preferences. 35% of the students were male and 65% were female. 50.3% of the students took courses on obstetrics and 49.7% stated that they had internship in obstetrics and gynecology. 93.4% of the students preferred normal birth as the first type of birth preference and there was no statistical difference between the classes in terms of normal birth preference (p>0.005). The rate of preference for normal delivery after cesarean section was 50% and a statistically significant difference was found between the classes (p <0.001). It was observed that the reason for requesting a normal birth was the healthier birth with 92.1%. Statistically significant differences were found in terms of the students' opinions about the class, gynecology class, or having a gynecology internship, and the factors affecting women's choice of birth type. Generally; It was determined that the opinions of medical school students about their choice of delivery may vary depending on their classrooms, taking maternity classes or performing internships.
