Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted as a single-blind, randomized controlled, experimental study to determine the effect of supportive care at birth, including trauma information, on the psychological outcomes of birth. The data of the study were collected from 86 women who gave primiparous birth in the Mersin City Hospital delivery room between October 2022 and January 2023. The study included 43 women in the intervention group who received supportive trauma-informed care at birth and 43 women in the control group who received standard care. Data were collected at the time of admission to the delivery room, during labor, the first 24 hours after birth, and 6-8 weeks after birth. In the study, data were collected 40 women from the intervention group and 40 women from the control group Personal Information Form, Birth Outcomes Information Form, Visual Pain Scale, Birth Control and Support Perception Scale, and City Birth Trauma Scale were used in the study. Descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson Chi-square test, and Yates' chi-square test were used in the analysis of the data. There was no difference between the groups in terms of socio-demographic, obstetric and, initial admission pain scores (p>0.05). It was concluded that the women in the group who received supportive trauma-informed care at birth had lower pain scores in all phases of the first stage of labor, their perceptions of control and support at birth were higher, birth trauma was lower than the women in the group who received standard care, and the differences were statistically significant. (p<0.05). In line with these results, it can be suggested supportive trauma-informed care at birth should be provided by midwives in order to improve the perinatal psychological outcomes of women.
