The role of self-compassion, perceived social support and hope in predicting posttraumatic growth

In this study, it was aimed to examine the role of self-compassion, perceived social support and hope in the prediction of posttraumatic growth. Predictive correlational model based on relational screening, which is a subtype of quantitative research methods, was used as the research method. The participants of the study consisted of a total of 490 adults, 398 women (81.2 %) and 92 men (18.8 %), who were directly or indirectly exposed to earthquake, determined by criterion sampling method. The data of the study were collected with Personal Information Form, Posttraumatic Growth Scale, Self-Comprehension Scale, Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale and Trait Hope Scale. The findings obtained from the research were examined and according to the results of the independent groups t-test analysis, it was found that there was no significant difference in the mean posttraumatic growth scores of the participants according to their gender, marital status, previous psychological help and exposure to earthquake. According to the results of the one-way analysis of variance conducted in the current thesis study, it was found that there was no significant difference in the mean posttraumatic growth scores according to the level of education. According to the multiple linear regression analysis conducted in the current thesis study, it was concluded that self-compassion, perceived social support and hope explained 6 % of the variance in posttraumatic growth. It was concluded that the level of hope predicted posttraumatic growth the most; the level of perceived social support predicted it secondly and the contribution of self-compassion to the model was not statistically significant.
