II SUMMARY Dissertation Thesis Turk-Afgahan Relations (The Period of Emanullah Khan 1919-1929) Mehmet KÖÇER Fırat University The Institute of Social Sciences Division of History Elazığ - 2004, Page: X+292 Afghanistan has an important place in Turkish history as both it is a region where Turks live and Turkish states ruled there in the history. Afghanistan was invaded by the great powers because of its geopolitic importance. All of the invaders, expect England, came from the north. Napoelon's invasion of Egypt was an important event in Egypt's future. After this invasion, France and then Russia tried to spread through South by using Afghanistan. England saw Afghanistan as a passage to India so Afghanistan became a place where Russia and England struggled. Under the rule of Emanullah Khan, Afghan nation fought against England just like Turkish National Struggle in Anatolia. Afghanistan and Turkey went in to a process of modernization after gaining their Independence. Afghan King Emanullah followed Atatürk as a model person. Turkey has helped this country to modernize its army. However, in spite of Atatürk' s warnings, Emanullah could not be successful had to leave his throne as he could not analyze the social and political structure of his country.
