Social criticism in Turkish classical ottoman poetry

Literary works of art are closely related to the political, social, cultural and intellectual characteristics, and the conditions of the period in which they were formed. In particular, criticism, one of the significant subjects of the literature, is more closely related to the moral, philosophical, religious standards of judgment, traditions and the cultures of the society.Although fantastic images relating to the blue of the sky and love were largely treated in Classsical Ottoman Poetry, poets were not indifferent to the living, concrete truths belonging to the black of the land, but the subjects including criticism like this were weak and limited compared to the imaginations. The subjects which we are familiar with thanks to extensions from the past appear in Dîvâns more than we suppose. These are: Bribery, favoritism, not assigning a job to people who are capable, having respect for the ignorant, but not for the talented people, differentiation between the poor and the rich, degeneration of the state and the high officials, not realizing the worth of the motherland, using the religion as a means of exploitation, regarding every way as permissible with the anxiety and expectation of position, being a high official, benefit, and having a good fortune, making the other, alienation, behaving in an opportunist way, reflection, acting with mass psychology, behaving without taking care of the social normsReviews are significant sources in the process of preparing literature histories in terms of they show the relations between poets and they give clues related to the life of lots of poets. For this reason, they are not to be undervalued. Furthermore, when their reasons of saying were taken into consideration, because they are a form which are closer to the social life, reviews, compared to the other forms, are significant sources of information which are worth studying for the people who work in the field of history and sociology.
