The issue of canonization of Turkish world novels in inside Turkish literature

ABSTRACT The Issue of Canonization of Turkish World Novels within Turkish Literature (1956-2000) Canon is a term that first appeared in the Hellenistic era. The term was reflected in many fields of art during the Renaissance. Canon, which emerged as a term covering the texts that constitute the essence of religion, has expanded in meaning throughout the historical process and found a place in literature. The term canon has developed together with the understanding of the nation-state within literary science. In literature, the canon is shaped around certain criteria such as aesthetic value, text circulation, curriculum and reader preference. Within literature, the canon is determined around certain elements. The elements that determine the canon are the state, academics, researchers, cultural institutions, critics, magazines, newspapers and public interest. It has been determined that the canon in Turkish literature is determined by these elements. In this study, the development phase of the canon is mentioned and its reflection on literature and Turkish literature is given by literature review. In the literature review, it was seen that the term canon gained influence on poetry and novels. In the study, canon discussions in Turkish literature are touched upon in general terms and the issue of canonization of Turkish World novels in Turkish literature, which is the focus of the thesis, is discussed. It has been determined that Turkish World novels started to be published in Turkey since 1956. 50 Turkish World novels were identified that were added to the high school textbooks and university textbooks of the Ministry of National Education. It was observed that the 50 novels identified were novels published between 1956 and 2000. Novels translated into Turkey Turkish Cengiz Dağcı, Cengiz Aytmatov, Anar Rızayev, Elçin Efendioğlu, Yusuf Samedoğlu, Mevlüt Süleymanlı, Kurban Said, Sadriddin Ayni, Adil Yakuboğlu, Abdullah Kadiri, Pirimkul Kadirov, Nur Ali Kabul, Musa Aybek Taşmuhammedoğlu, Şükrullah Yusufoğlu, Muhtar Awezov, Tahavi Ahtanov, Annaguli Nurmemmet, Tirkiş Cumageldi, Muhammet Ayaz İshaki, Ömer Osman Erendoruk, Halimat Bayramuk and Özker Yaşın such as writers of novels were analyzed in a thematic context and it is explained which canon they can be included in.
