Problems and solutions on educational supply and demand in Turkish educational system

The aim of this study is to reveal the problems experienced in the education supply and education demand in the Turkish education system and to offer solutions. The phenomenology pattern, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. Three different types of schools and students studying in these schools, teachers, administrators and parents who have students in these schools participated in the research.The data of the research were collected in the 2021-2022 academic year. 21 participants, including teachers, parents, students and school administrators from an Imam Hatip High School, a Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and a General High School, were included in the study in total. The data were obtained with a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher. In the analysis of the data, Moustakas' phenomenological data analysis process was followed. Qualitative research analysis program MAXQDA-11 was used in the analysis of the data. According to the results obtained from the research, the demand for education was defined as the education need of the society and individuals; education supply is defined as the education service provided by the state. In addition, it was understood that the most important determining factors in the context of education demand are families, the desire to have a profession easily, the examination system connected to the education system and the desire to go to a good higher education. Regarding the education supply, the most negative opinion was towards the budget allocated to education. In line with the results obtained from the research, suggestions were made such as taking into account the demand in schooling rates, professional development of teachers, raising awareness of families, effective work of school guidance services in supporting families and students in school preference, providing more budgets to increase the quality of education.
