Abstract (EN)
While primarily addressing the need for shelter, residential structures, which constitute a significant portion of the physical environment most reflective of society's socio-cultural structure, also manifest as a holistic expression in the urban fabric and in the lives of urban dwellers both physically and socially. With this approach, it becomes common for residential structures of a community exhibiting the same culture in a specific region to possess similar, or even identical, characteristics. Traditional dwellings have also found their place from ancient civilizations to the present day in Anatolia due to its geopolitical position, hosting numerous civilizations over time. Cities in different regions of Anatolia, which have hosted many civilizations, contain textures that include examples of traditional Turkish residential architecture. The city of Elazığ, designated as the study area, is a place of historical significance that documents our history, maintaining its traditional texture from the past to the present. The aim of the study is to introduce the rich cultural heritage of the Elazığ city center and the Hüseynik Köyiçi district, which are rich in traditional architectural works, to the masses, to evaluate the spatial and semantic relationships of traditional dwellings, which contain information on various aspects such as the socio-cultural environment, architecture, and morphology of the period our country has experienced, within the specified areas, and to analyze their morphological changes syntactically. The space syntax method is a technique used to investigate the effects of design alternatives at the scale of different regions, cities, and buildings, as well as their interactions with social structure and semantic dimension relationships. Accordingly, the effects of the lives of communities living in the Elazığ province and Hüseynik Köyiçi district on the configurations of dwellings and spaces have been obtained as concrete data through syntactic analysis as a method of reading space. Based on the data obtained, it is clearly observed that the way of life and social conditions in the two areas have significant effects on spatial design. As a result, it has been determined that conducting morphological examinations through residential structures in two separate regions and transferring spatial evaluations to the future on the basis of analysis of the past and present is an important step. It is expected that traditional dwellings will provide a foundation by assisting in the determination of correct preservation strategies while being re-functionalized.
