Abstract (EN)

Istanbul, which has an important position in the historical process, has hosted important civilizations throughout the ages. Over time, as a result of the cultural interaction of civilizations, the city had a rich cultural accumulation. It is possible to see the cultural accumulation in a wide range of art from architecture to handicrafts. At the beginning, handicrafts, which arose from the basic needs of human beings, became a good tool in reflecting the thoughts and aesthetic feelings of societies over time. Among these handicraft products, wood art has an important place among them. Because of its natural properties, wood has been a preferred material from past to present with its aesthetic and warm texture. Used in many areas of life, wood has an indispensable feature in handicrafts. Wood, which has been used in handicrafts for ages, has been a preferred material in Turkish Handicrafts. The advent of Turks to meet the art of wood goes back a long way. Wooden works from the kurgans in Central Asia show how early the art of wood began in the Turks. With the arrival of the Turks in Anatolia, the tradition of woodwork continued and has continued to this day. It is understood from the decorative techniques and compositions applied to the works that the Turks had undergone a change and development process from the periods before Islam to the last periods of the Ottoman Empire. A group of wooden artifacts found in the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, which has rich collections, were examined in order to exhibit Istanbul's cultural accumulation. Istanbul is an important city with its many architectural structures and museums and rich examples of Turkish and Islamic Art.
