Abstract (EN)

Epic epics are narratives with ritualistic features that are told by believing in their reality, along with the cult of heroes who have played or played an important role in the life of a society. The first of the epic epics of the Turks in the Anatolian geography is the epic of Battal Gazi. This epic emerged in the oral culture environment and was written down with texts prepared to be read in assemblies. With these texts, many verse and prose Battalnames have emerged. Battalnames have attracted attention and been read in every environment from the farthest villages of the state to the palace, from the army to the world of literature, since they are the subject of the material and spiritual conquests of the Muslim Turks and are embodied in a plain language. This interest has survived to the present day and Battalname has created a cult in Turkish culture. In this thesis, which was prepared to reveal the Battalname cult in Turkish culture, the transcripted text of the 640-page manuscript Battalname, which was written in Gregorian 1730 and located in the Manisa Provincial Public Library, was prepared. The text was analyzed according to Alex Olric's "Epic Laws" and it was found that the Battalname complied with these laws. Based on this text, the social dimension of the Battalname cult in Turkish culture was examined in the context of Functional Folklore Theory, and its psychological dimension was examined in the context of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
