Abstract (EN)

Orkun Magazine is a Turkish Nationalism magazine which had been published from 6 October 1950 to 18 January 1952 on Friday every week; 68 issues were published. The magazine is not a person's or a group's magazine. Although İsmet TÜMTÜRK is seen as the owner, it is the magazine of all Turkists who have devoted themselves to a cause. Orkun Magazine has not been the third period of the Orhun Magazine which was closed two times in Single-Party period. Demokrat Parti's (Democratic Party) victory in the 14 May 1950 election, Turkists decision to publish Orkun Magazine as a move to unite Turkish Nationalists with a new enthusiasm have been the beginning of a new period and hope. Orkun Magazine had become the new fortress of Turkish Nationalists. As being the editor, Hüseyin Nihal ATSIZ's effort to gather Turkists under one roof can be seen. One of the main topics of the magazine is the 1944-1945 Racism-Turanism Trial. It is not the Turkists that sustained damage in this trial; it is the Republic of Turkey. Orkun Magazine has discussed the development process of Turkish nationalism as it is a Turkist magazine. Beginning from the first written document of Turks, Orhun Kitabeleri (Orkhon/Orhon Inscriptions), it has been told that how Göktürkler/Göktürks, Karahanlılar, Karamanoğulları, Selçuklular/Seljuks and Osmanlılar/Ottomans brightened the glorious past of Turkish nation and the important contributions of important philosophers of this period. The writers of Orkun Magazine which was published as a Turkist Magazine changed continuously. Important writers like İsmet Tümtürk, Hüseyin Nihal Atsız, Nejdet Sançar, M. Zeki Sofuoğlu, H. Fethi Gözler, Hocaoğlu S. Ertürk, Nuri Tarhan have made a lot of effort to sustain the magazine. Orkun Magazine has bade farewell because of various problems by announcing on the 67th issue and publishing the 68th and last issue on 18 January 1952. The reason of this sudden farewell is neither financial reasons nor government suppressions. The reason of the magazine's closure is exactly that the publishers were working in different jobs and did not have enough time for the magazine.
